Meet the Moon
The Moon is a giant ball of rock. It lives in space, very close to our Earth. It is Earth's best friend!
Round and round
The Moon goes around and around the Earth, like a dancer in a big circle. One trip takes about 27 days — almost one whole month!

Where does its light come from?
Here is a secret: the Moon has no light of its own! The Sun shines on it, like a big flashlight. As the Moon moves, we see more or less of its sunny side. That's why the Moon changes shape!

Try it: slide the dot and watch the Moon change.

Bumpy holes called craters
Long, long ago, space rocks crashed into the Moon. BOOM! Each one made a round hole. These holes are called craters. Some are bigger than a whole city!

No air, no wind, no rain
The Moon has no air to breathe. Astronauts must wear space suits! There is no wind and no rain, so footprints in the Moon dust can stay there for a very, very long time.
Super-duper jumps
The Moon pulls on you much less than Earth does. You would feel 6 times lighter! You could jump way up high and float down slowly, like a balloon.

A long trip
The Moon is very far away. A rocket needs about 3 days to get there! Keep scrolling to fly.
Real people went there!
In 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first people to walk on the Moon. In all, 12 people have walked on it. In 2026, four astronauts flew all the way around the Moon!
